The Rosetown Youth Drop-In Centre celebrated a milestone 10th anniversary on Friday June 21st, 2019. Young people in Rosetown have been so fortunate to have this 100% volunteer run program available for the past 10 years.

‘The Youth Drop-In Centre's purpose is to provide a safe, welcoming place for youth to have fun in a positive and supportive way.’

There was a barbecue supper at 201-9th Avenue West from 5pm-7pm to celebrate the anniversary. Everyone was welcome to attend, and the turnout along with the weather were good, reported volunteer and co-founder of the Youth Centre, Bob White.

White has been a part of the program from the very beginning, “We were having coffee one day and there were grumblings about kids in town getting into trouble and I thought, well let’s give them something better to do on a Friday night,” White said of the Youth Centre’s start.

White noted that the Youth Centre can see 40 kids on a typical Friday night. Air hockey, ping-pong and pool are just some of the attractions available. Anyone is welcome and it is completely free.

The Centre does close during the summer months when volunteers are harder to come by. White shared that while there are about 8 volunteers who graciously give of their Friday evenings, they are always looking for more help.

When asked why he volunteers, White articulated, “There’s been young people who’ve come back and told us what kind of difference we’ve made; it makes you feel good when you hear that and when you know you've done some good.”

You can contact Bob White or Crystal Storey if you’d like to volunteer or to get more information.
