Saskatchewan RCMP are reminding residents not to operate vehicles or boats while impaired by alcohol or drugs as the August Long Weekend approaches.

"Sometimes we feel like a broken record, but some drivers are still not getting the message that impaired driving is dangerous," said Sgt. Ian Amundsen from Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services. "In July, Saskatchewan RCMP has charged 166 people with Criminal Code impaired driving offences."

The Mounties said they also issued 162 roadside suspensions to drivers in July who consumed drugs, whose blood alcohol concentration was between .04 and .08, or who provided a breath sample that was positive for alcohol while being a novice driver.
