Recent stops in Kindersley and Kerrobert earlier this week by current Biggar-Sask Valley MLA Randy Weekes made for some good discussion between the local member, and potential future constituents.

The visits were no doubt part of Weekes' campaign trail regarding his candidacy for the Sask. Party in the new riding of Kindersley-Biggar, as Weekes had former federal and provincial politician Alan Kerpan by his side.

"The main focus of the meeting was to introduce Allan Kerpan. He's a former MP, Member of Parliament, and colleague as a Member of the Legislative Assembly." said Weekes as Kerpan also has experience as co-chair of the Economic Autonomy Committee with Lyle Stewart that held a meeting in Kindersley.

Weekes has Kerpan's support.

"Allan gave an outline of a lot of areas in politics, but I really appreciate him coming out and endorsing me for the candidacy in Kindersley-Biggar. I appreciate his support. Allan and I go back a long ways, and it's very rewarding to have someone with his expertise and background endorsing me for the nomination."

Kerpan mostly spoke on topics surrounding the autonomy committee. They covered a lot of the Federal Liberal policies affecting the oil and gas, and agriculture sector.

Weekes gave his own speech alongside the guest introduction.

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly talked about a few things to come out of the annual Premier's Dinner, as Scott Moe doubled down on a few of his comments regarding emissions targets set by the Federal government.

"The Premier was speaking about the net zero carbon emission targets the Liberals were going to impose on us, and we changed that deadline from 2035 to 2050. The Premier said 'I hear they plan on putting me in jail. That's OK with me'.

Weekes used that as a point of leadership from the Premier.

"Quite frankly I would stand by him to do anything that concerns jail, or anything like that. I don't think that would ever come to pass, but certainly the Caucus and myself would be supporting the Premier in anything that would come forth from the Federal Liberals."

Weekes said he hopes there will be a federal election for the possibility of some change, also stating they will "cross that bridge when we come to it".

Other things touted by the Premier just a few weeks back was the Provincial election slated about 15 months from now. Political parties in the province have been shuffling around to secure nominations for their candidates (such as Weekes) for a few months now with the end of the current term getting nearer by the day.

"I spoke about my campaign. Places I have been visiting. Have been very busy out meeting people and going to parades. I was in Denzil and Macklin on Sunday, and on the Friday I visited all the businesses in Kerrobert." said Weekes as his busy scheduled included these recent coffee meetings with Kerpan in Kerrobert and Kindersley.

No word has come in yet regarding the nominations in Kindersley and Biggar. Around the province a few nomination dates have already been set, and some seats are actually coming up for grabs though potential by-elections this summer.
