A main story across Canada right now is the “Truckers for Freedom” movement headed to Ottawa.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe made sure it was a topic of discussion at the press conference yesterday, though he did not have much to say on the current convoy of truckers headed to oppose mandates in Ottawa. When asked if a convoy of truckers was an appropriate approach right now in opposition to mandates concerning supply chains, Moe was quick to defer his answer.

“That is a great question for the Prime Minister of Canada and his government.”

People reacting strongly to the policy created by the Liberals led to Moe sharing his opinion, encouraging any support against it to follow all of the laws and regulations ultimately in place today. Moe then once again identified Ottawa as the ones to give answers, on if this policy is actually going to in any way produce tangible results.

“Or is it just to essentially have a negative result, in us not being able to access the goods and services that truckers bring to our communities each and every day.”

Moe commented on how their service helped us get through the most trying stages of the pandemic, and also how most truckers are vaccinated despite the opposition to label most protestors headed to Ottawa as unvaccinated.

“When we saw some incredibly large case numbers in the early days of COVID south of the border, it was our truckers that crossed that border day-in-and-day-out, and brought us back our goods and services that we needed in very trying times. It was our truckers that were the courageous ones that went prior to vaccines, prior to any of the tools that we have available to us today.”

Moe believes there is a better way forward, one that includes dialogue between the government and trucking organizations. He also hopes that the people involved in these tough decisions truly respect what the truckers have done across the country, and what they have provided for years in general.

Protestors from every direction are set to arrive in Ottawa on January 29th.
