Some new faces will be representing different departments in cabinet as members of provincial government make their bid for Saskatchewan Party leadership and to be the next Premier of Saskatchewan.

Yesterday morning, Premier Brad Wall announced which ministers will be holding new titles on cabinet and welcomed new members during a press conference at Government House in Regina. The moves were made after former ministers Tina Beaudry-Mellor, Jeremy Harrison, Gordon Wyant and Ken Cheveldayoff had left their positions in order to run for party leadership.

Former Minister of Environment Scott Moe stepped down from his position on cabinet, but has yet to announce his intentions to campaign as leader for the party.

Current ministers who will hold new or added titles:

  • Kevin Doherty from finance to advanced education
  • Donna Harpauer from government relations to finance
  • Bronwyn Eyer from advanced education to education and responsiblity for the status of women
  • Dustin Duncan from energy to environment, responsibility for Saskatchewan Water Corporation, Saskatchewan Water Security Agency, Global Transportation Hub, and SaskPower
  • Don Morgan adds justice and attorny general to his portfolio
  • David Marit adds SaskBuilds and Priority Saskatchewan
  • Joe Hargrave adds SaskTel and SaskEnergy

Five new ministers have been welcomed to cabinet as well. They will take over the following portfolios:

  • Nancy Heppner - energy, Public Service Commission
  • Paul Merriman - social services
  • Larry Doke - government relations, responsibility for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs
  • Steven Bonk - economy, responsibility for tourism, innovation, and trade
  • Gene Makowsky - parks, culture and sport, responsibility for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority

The Saskatchewan Party Leadership Convention is set for January 27, 2018 in Saskatoon. Once a leader has been chosen, Wall will officially resign as premier and party leader.
