UPDATE: View some pictures from Lucky Lake School on Facebook, showing off the recent launch of their model Titanic

ears of teaching at Lucky Lake School. The model Titanic, which is Mr. Smith's last project with his students, is now completely finished. The model was built 1:100 scale and is 9 feet long, and weighs approximately 60 pounds including a steel ballast. Mr. Smith and the students began working on the project in February. Originally this was part of the buoyancy unit in science, but the students and Mr. Smith continued to add detail on the upper decks and haul as part of the students shop and art classes.

The class is planning to put it in the water, film it, and then sink it. They built it with the watertight compartments and a valve in the front to simulate the gradual sinking. It is designed to be fully recoverable and will be eventually kept as a display model in the school. Mr. Smith was happy to end his teaching career with this unique project.

"I am very grateful to have had this wonderful building experience with such great students. The Titanic project has provided a perfect end to my teaching career," Mr. Smith said.
