The Flatlanders speedway wrapped up their season with an invitational Saturday and Sunday, and after things were all said and done they handed out their championship awards at the end of the races as well. All four race classes, Stock Trucks, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stock, were on the track for their feature races.

Stock Trucks

In Saturday’s Stock Truck Feature race, nine trucks hit the track in total the 44 Tanner Ramstead took the checkered flag after a race that saw him in front for a decent amount of time while doing battle with the 94 truck of Brad Long. The two were the front-runners for most of the race and Ramstead had to make a nice pass by slipping in underneath on the inside of the track to get through and into first, which he held on to for the remaining half of the race.

As for the Sunday race, Sawyer Diemert in the 01 truck was the first to cross the line after a long battle. Ryley Kennedy in the 11 held the lead for a long portion of the first half of the race, but along the way he had a mechanical failure and had to pull out. That opened up a battle between Diemert, Ramstead, and Long once again, and near the end Diemert was able to pull free by a few truck lengths and he earned the win.

Once the points were totalled up, the Diemert end up being the track champion with 90 points on the year, Brad Long finished in second at 86, and Ryley Kennedy finished in third with 78.

Modifieds

In the first Modified’s feature race of the weekend, it was Joey Galloway’s 01 car in the first place position once the checkered flag flew as part of a weekend where he took both races. It took Galloway some time to work into first, but once he did, he found a line on the track about 3/4 of the way up the curve to follow as he worked his way around the track in front. His lead wasn’t too large by the end of the race, but that may have been because he was saving something for the next day.

The second feature race of the weekend wasn’t much different than the first. Galloway worked his way into the front of the pack in the first five laps, and from there he never looked back. Galloway found his line at the top of the track where he could hit the corners as hard as he could to keep his speed up, and by the end of the race he had about half of the track between him and the racers in second place.

Golloway also took home the big trophy with 100 points on the season with Jim Cocks finishing in second at 83, and finally Quinn Fahrenschon finished third with 80.

Street Stocks

The first Street Stock feature race of the weekend saw a special moment on the track. In first place for a large amount of the race was speedway president and 49 car Jason Hankewich who started racing for the first time in three years after an accident kept him off the track in that time. By the time the race was over, Hankewich was in first with about five car lengths between him and the vehicle in second, and Hankewich secured his first win in three years.

Sunday’s feature race winner was another special moment as we had a first time winner ever. Bill Stuart has raced all different kinds of models of vehicles but has never had a win on a dirt track. He finally got things done when he took his 69 car over the finish line first and was able to get the win.

While he didn’t win a race during the weekend, Wayne Sadowski finished things up as the track champion for Street Stocks with 86 points on the year. Jason Hankewich finished things up in second with 84 points, and Hankewich’s win broke the tie between he and Murray Koethler who finished in third, also with 84 points.

Hobby Stocks

In total, 21 Hobby Stock cars made their way on to the track for the two feature races of the weekend. Saturday’s race was one by the 22 car and Chris Douglas who had a solid race in front as he lead for most of the 20 laps after starting in the second place position. Even after a couple of restarts, he never gave up his lead and was ahead by about 1/4 of a lap by the end.

Sunday’s Hobby Stock race may have been the best race of the weekend. Tyler Pidhernay won the race in his 10 car after a long, hard fought battle. Early in the race, a pack of three broke free with Pidhernay at the front along with 15 Keven Sage and Douglas behind him, and Piderney started to put a little track between him and the group behind. While the front of the pack was rounding corner three, a spinout back on corner one caused cars to spread out around the track, and Pidhernay was able to use the cars he was passing at the back of the pack to defend his spot in first as he rounded the corners. Keven Sage started to nip at the heels of Pidhernay near the end, but Pidhernay was able to stay in front by less than half a car length to finish off the weekend.

Chris Douglas end up as the track champion with 89 points on the season, Tyler Pidhernay in second with 84, and Keven Sage rounded out the top three with 82 points.
