If you have been driving around the Unity area, you may have noticed some construction going on near the intersection of Highway 21 and 14.

Unity mayor Sharon Del Frari talked to West Central Online, and gave an update on how things were going.

“It’s going excellently. They had hoped to be finished a little sooner, but there's been a couple of issues, but they've got those under control and now they do plan on starting to pave, I believe by the middle of August,” Del Frari said.

Del Frari talked about the need for a change at the intersection.

“You can't take heavy loads on that piece of road, it's too narrow and the base wasn't made for heavy loads. It's taken years to figure out how to go around the town between highways and the town of Unity,” Del Frari added.

She then explained how the new intersection will work.

“It'll go around the trailer court and then hook up again with Highway 14 at the south end. It will be a heavy load capacity road,” Del Frari added.

Not only will this help people on the highways around Unity, it will also help the North West Terminal.

“The Terminal is expanding, but with their expansion there's going to be a lot more trucks coming and going through that area. So that'll help with the upgrade to Highway 21. They'll be able to access the Terminal much easier than going around by taking a route. The increased traffic should help our businesses as well,” Del Frari added.

Once completed, Def Frari feels the new setup will make things much easier for travelers and residents in and around the Unity area for years to come.
