The Kindersley Jr. Klippers and the Melfort Mustangs battled it out in round three of the Fouillards Cup, this time on Mustang ice.

And it was the Mustangs who came out fast and furious in this one, as defenseman Kevin Minnoch joined the rush and beat Cody Jaman just 13 seconds into the first period.

Kindersley took a while to bounce back from the quick goal and actually responded quite well, with Brock Evans getting his 5th of the season, to tie the score just shy of the eight-minute mark. The helpers went to Brayden Koch and Cameron Rimstad who made a nice rush into the Mustangs zone.

The second is where Melfort took over this hockey game, with three of the four goals scored in the period.

Hometown Mustang Zac Somers got on the board in the first minute of the second, and Minnoch got his second of the game on a powerplay.

Kindersley showed some life thanks to a splendid rush from Aidan Bangs. Heading down the right wing, he drove the net and went top shelf on James Venne to cut the Mustangs lead to one.

But it was captain Ben Tkachuk who scored just under two minutes later on a nice rush of his own. As his shot from the high slot was perfect, going off of the far post and in.

The third saw a couple more Mustangs goals, including a second from Somers. Then Riley Asche joined the party for his 8th of the season.

As the clock winded down, Logan Linklater and Dawson Leroux got tangled up outside the Kindersley crease. The two then dropped their gloves and had a spirited tilt, with both players getting in some good shots.

The Mustangs have now narrowed the lead in the Fouillards Cup to a 2-1 deficit. The last matchup between Kindersley and Melfort is March 1 back at the Northern Lights Palace.
