The Flahr sisters, who have had family around them impacted by Multiple Sclerosis, have been riding for a cure since 2014.

Richard Flahr, who is the father of the three Flahr sisters, comes from family of seven, with him as the only male, and five of his six sisters have been diagnosed with MS. Unfortunately, both Aunt Niki and Aunt Bernice were lost due to MS earlier, and the sisters have been riding in their honour.

With the disease being so impactful to the Flahr family, the Flahr sisters, Sheila Wilson (Flahr) from Leduc, Alta., Trina Flahr from North Battleford and Sacha Knorr (Flahr) from Beaumont, Alta., all decided to take part in the MS Bike Ride, with Sacha and Sheila beginning in 2014, and Trina hopping on board in 2016. This year the MS Bike Ride come closer to home, as it was held in Luseland on September 18.

Luseland mayor Kathy Wurz, and Luseland Credit Union General Manager Adam Franko were in attendance, as the Credit Union, with the help of Luseland Family Foods and the Delta Co-op, held a barbecue during the day. Franko said the turnout was the great, and all the money from the barbecue went to MS research.

"Overall I think we served about 200 burgers for the day so, considering the weather we were pretty happy with that. We had scaled back to a drive thru barbecue event just like we had done earlier in the year to make sure we're all being safe with the added cases in the area. We were also very happy to partner with Luseland Family Foods and the Delta Co-op for the supplies and the barbecue and they sent some people to help with the work of the day too, which was greatly appreciated. Our numbers are just over $3000 we raised off the barbeque part, so that was pretty fantastic. That is the best barbecue we've had as far as donations."
