The 2023 Canada-Saskatchewan Feed Program and the Livestock Tax Deferral Program have been expanded to help more producers deal with the drought and dry conditions.

Agriculture Minister David Marit says another ten RM's have been added and are eligible for up to $150 per head.

The additional RM's include the RM's of  Lumsden, Sherwood, Bratt’s Lake, Edenwold, Lajord, South Qu’Appelle and North Qu’Appelle, as well as the RM's of Britannia, Rosthern, and Bayne.

The program covers 70 per cent of extraordinary costs related to feed and freight incurred after May 1, 2023, through to March 15, 2024.

Producers have until March 31, 2024, to submit their application and paperwork related to any extraordinary expenses related to the drought.

Those expenses can include purchasing feed, self-hauling or transportation costs for feed or breeding animals, and/or land rented for additional grazing acres or additional feed production.

Animals included under the program include beef cattle,  bison, elk, deer, sheep, goats and horses.
