The Luseland Bell Acres Golf and Country Club held a Facebook auction from January 10 to February 12, and managed to raise a substantial amount. Club Treasurer Ryley Magnus explains how much the auction took in.

“We were hoping to make $10,000 on this fundraiser and we made almost 3 1/2 times that. The community was extremely generous here and surrounding communities as well. We were able to raise $34,500,” Magnus said.

The highest bid went to a combine demo, according to Magnus.

“The highest bid on any one item was $2000 on a Claas combine demo from Canada West Harvest Center in Kindersley. They were the ones who donated the combine demo and a young farmer in the Luseland area named Jayden Olfert was the highest bid on that at two thousand dollars,” Magnus added.

The generosity of the people from the Luseland area, the ones who bid, and the ones who donated items up for bid, really made Magnus proud of the amount the auction made.

“We're thrilled at the generosity of donors who donated items to the auction and the generosity of the bidders. Bidding went right till the last closing second, it was a late night for some people as it closed about midnight on Saturday, so we had constant action for the five weeks around this auction,” Magnus also said.

As for what the money will be going towards, Magnus said there are quite a few projects on the go at the local golf course.

“Our high priority items for this are to expand our clubhouse. Right now, we use Porta Potties, therefore bathrooms at the clubhouse, and so we're going to put men's and ladies' bathrooms on the course, plus do some expansion that way and get some water storage there. Plus, we're going to make some improvements to our watering system to keep the fairways looking very green. We're doing some hydroseeding around the new synthetic greens we put in to really tie those in with nice grass. Then also, we're looking at purchasing an aerator to soften up our fairways as well.”

Expect updates on how the projects are doing at the golf course, in the coming months.
