The Saskatchewan government is investing $1.5 million in the Community Airport Partnership Program.

This funding will provide improvements to 19 community airports across the province, and, when combined with local matching dollars, will represent a $3 million investment in provincial airport infrastructure.

One airport who will be receiving provincial funding in the west central region is the Luseland and District Regional Airport. They will be receiving $47,699, and Chair of the Luseland and District Regional Airport Board Blain Thrun, explains how much the money will help the Regional Airport.

“This grant money will cover approximately half of the repairs, that’s quite substantial. Our Board is pretty small, and doesn’t have access to a pile of money, it’s pretty huge getting this grant” Thrun said.

The grant is being put towards the crack filling of the runway and apron at the Luseland Regional Airport, and should be completed this summer.

Other airports in the west central region receiving CAP funding are the Kindersley Regional Airport, which is receiving $36,715 for crack sealing and the replacement of runway lighting. The Leader Airport is receiving $5,453 for line markings and numbers on the runway and aprons, and the highest amount of the four communities receiving money is the RM of Snipe Lake Airport, as they are receiving $50,350 for crack seal, slurry runway, taxiway, and apron.
