Hindsight2020 begins on Wednesday, and local social worker Colleen McBride will be kicking off the 3 o’clock hour with her presentation “Life is a Living Laboratory”.

One of the reasons Jennifer Bews Events went ahead with this fantastic idea, was to allow out of work entertainers and creatives a chance to get back to work. One specific group of people lacking work are musicians, so a featured entertainment guest like Mitch Larock is likely to be extra excited for his part in closing out Wednesday’s schedule. He is set for a 15 minute performance beginning at 4:30 pm, that will include 2 original songs and a special guest.

With most of the guests just seemingly getting back in the saddle, an interesting aspect to our conversation with McBride, outlined how this past year has been the complete opposite for people in her industry.

“It’s been a pretty busy time in the counseling world” explained McBride.

She was very excited to be approached about possible Hindsight2020 content, but admits she hasn’t really kept with the other parts of the conference because of her busy schedule. That being said she knows the variety of topics that Hindsight2020 will bring to the table, and is excited for anyone that will be using this opportunity to get back to doing what they love.

“It’s really neat that she found a way to weave all these different pieces together,” said McBride, “Motivational speakers, some pretty big life lessons will probably be shared, (but at the same time) personal stories will be included, and the joy of being able to listen to music. Just seeing people share their craft, it’s motivating.”

Her presentation will attempt to share the connection between the inner and outer world, being split up into four different parts.

‘Life is a Living Laboratory’.

That is the overall message that Colleen McBride hopes people will take from her presentation. Life is constantly moving and there is no manual for it, but when she really thought about the different variables it can bring, it inspired her to craft some personal strategies into this specially made presentation for Hindsight2020.

“Simply put for me, life is a bit of an experiment,” said McBride, “There are things we can control, and things that we can’t. It made me (think back to sitting in a lab), trying to learn something about how things go together, or don’t go together.”

McBride wants to show how hypothesizing and research doesn’t just have to take place in the lab. She mentioned multiple times how there are things in life that can be uncontrollable, along with just as many things that can be controlled. All of the pieces will be there until you understand and decide how you will use them. Opportunities to learn, correct, and try something new exist every day. Her presentation will aim to inspire people trying to make sense of their situation, by following hunches and taking guesses to ultimately find out if one’s solution has been inside themselves the whole time.
