It's bad news for the SJHL's Kindersley Klippers as one of the team's leaders will be sidelined for an extended period.

Head coach/general manager Geoff Grimwood announced team captain Cole Plotnikoff will be out of the lineup for at least three months after suffering a severe injury to his Achilles tendon.

Plotnikoff picked up the injury during his team's 5-3 win over the Weyburn Red Wings at the SJHL Showcase in Saskatoon. According to Grimwood, the captain sustained the injury when he took a skate blade across the tendon during play.

Grimwood added how there is no exact date for his return to the starting lineup as fans may not see the forward until mid-season.

While it is a big loss for the Klippers on and off the ice, there are plenty of players prepared to step up during his absence.

Assistant captain Tanner Thompson will don the 'C' until Plotnikoff is healthy while Cody Hodgson and Jordan Funk continue their assistan captain responsibilities.

"It's always a group effort," said Grimwood. "Cole's the leader of our hockey team, so a lot of guys have to step up."

The Klippers roll on the road over the next two nights in Flin Flon when they take on the Bombers at the Whitney Forum.
