Kindersley resident Audrey Heit will receive the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal for all she does to improve the community. Heit is a retired special care aide who has lived in Kindersley for over 44 years, and she spoke about the importance of volunteering and receiving the medal after hearing the news. 

Heit volenters with:
  • Kindersley and District Plains Museum
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Kindersley Curling Club
  • Kindersley Royal Canadian Legion Branch #57
  • Kindersley and District Food Bank
Heit also collects Good buy to Hunger bags from local stores and helps arrange food hampers at the collection depot.

"Without her we would be lost," President of the Kindersley Food Bank Linda Resch said. "She's always busy volunteering everywhere so she deserves it."

Heit also was named Kindersley’s Citizen of the Year at the 2016 KBEX Awards.

Heit is one of 10 volunteers who will recieve the medal at a ceremony in Regina during National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 15-21 this year.
"The ceremony is going to be very prestigious," Heit said. "That's an opportunity of a lifetime." 
 
The announcement was made by the new Lieutenant Governor W. Thomas Molloy. “The men and women who will receive the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal are an example to us all,” Molloy said. “Through their generosity of spirit, they are making Saskatchewan a better place. I congratulate all of the 2017 recipients on receiving this honour as some of Saskatchewan’s best volunteers.”
