Although we are seeing a decline, or at least a tapering off of new cases, the jury is still out for many summer events while others make the hard decision to forego their annual events once again.

The Kindersley Rodeo Association has recently announced they will once again be cancelling the annual indoor rodeo due to the ongoing pandemic and subsequent restrictions.

The rodeo, which was scheduled to take place on May 20-22, is just one of several rodeos that will not be taking place this upcoming spring and summer.

The Canadian Cowboys Association (CCA) board has stated that they are working towards having an active rodeo season, despite the uncertainties that still hang overhead.

Although Kindersley has bowed out, there are some who have confirmed their intent on hosting a rodeo, with several others hanging in the balance.

Weyburn and Delisle rodeo committees have joined Kindersley in cancelling their event, however, six others have confirmed with CCA including, Stettler, Swift Current, Moosomin, Wood Mountain, Herbert and Consul.

Other locations, including Eston and Unity, have not yet confirmed if they will be moving forward with their rodeo. Eston’s annual rodeo may pose more challenges as it, like Kindersley, is hosted in an indoor arena, which poses additional health restrictions.

Unity’s rodeo is to coincide with Western Days at the end of May and Eston’s tentative date is set on the CCA schedule for mid-June.
