Communities throughout Canada joined in taking a moment to remember the soldiers who fought in one of the most iconic battles in Canadian history.

Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge where 3,598 Canadians were killed and 7,004 were wounded. On Sunday afternoon, members of the Kindersley RCMP, Legion, town council, and cadets took part in a march to begin the commemoration ceremony.

The event began at 1:30 PM from the Kindersley Legion Hall and featured marching percussion as the group commenced their route towards Baker Park.

The march made its way along 2nd Avenue East (Veterans Lane) towards Main Street, and continued along the road to Baker Park where the ceremony was held. Residents awaited for the arrival of the parade near the cenotaph as the marchers began entering the park.

Members from each organization and local group grabbed a commemorative wreath on their way into the seats as everyone prepared for the ceremony.

The event kicked off with the singing of the Canadian National Anthem and an introduction with Kindersley Legion Chaplain Scott Holloway. Once the introduction was complete, two local students played "The Last Post" followed by a minute of silence.

Representatives from the federal and provincial governments, Town of Kindersley, RCMP, Fire Department, Kindersley Legion and Cadets, Westberry Elementary School, Elizabeth Middle School, and Kindersley Composite School took part in the 'Laying of Wreaths' portion of the service. Students from Elizabeth Middle School presented the following segment in the ceremony including a recitation of "In Flander's Fields".

Holloway completed the afternoon spectacle with a closing prayer and an invitation for the audience to join the Legion members at the hall for refreshments. "God Save The Queen" concluded the ceremony before the members marched out of the park.
