Minor hockey is in full force in the West Central area and local atom teams were very successful this past weekend. The Big Rack Vac Western Prairie Thunder Atom girls team walked away as A final champs in the Swift Current Female extravaganza. The girls only lost one game in a close 2-1 battle with the Lloydminster Blazers. The girls got a chance for revenge against the same Blazers team on Sunday morning and this time came out on top with a 3-0 victory. Clair Kosolofski scored a pair of goals and Presley McKnight added another to finish off the Blazers for their first championship of the season.

In other atom hockey action the Kindersley Full Tilt Klippers were in action in Dodsland in the Brad McCrimmon Memorial Atom tournament. The Klippers took on Dodsland early on Saturday morning and skated away with a 7-2 victory. Then later on Saturday they played the Macklin Mohawks White team and came up short losing 6-3 to drop them to the B side of the tournament on Sunday. Kindersley bounced back and won the next day with an 11-2 win over the Unity Lazers White team to capture the B side championship.

The Midget Kindersley Klippers were in action as well this weekend with a pair of games. Kindersley split the two games against Macklin and Rosetown. They were defeated 5-1 against Macklin on the road on Saturday. The Klippers were right back at it on Sunday and came out with a better effort beating the Rosetown Redwings midget team 9-1 at home. Caleb Bacon had 2 goals and 2 assists to lead Kindersley in the win. Preston Edgerton and Dexter Francis had 2 goals as well. Blake Sautner leads the team in scoring with 5 points in 3 games so far with Bacon and Francis right behind with 4. The Midget Klippers have a busy weekend ahead with 3 games on the schedule starting with a game in Dinsmore on Friday night at 8 pm.
