Earlier this month, the Kindersley Fire Brigade announced the new addition to their fleet, one that will have them better equipped to local emergencies, especially in rural areas.

"It's what we call an urban interface truck, which is capable of all the requirements of a Class A firefighting unit, or a structural firefighters etc. - and the urban interface part comes with the ability to get off-road and deal with those grass fires," said Kindersley Fire Chief, Ron Hope, about the new truck.

Hope added that this truck has more ground clearance than the other trucks in their fleet and the departure angles on the back end of the truck allows for more ease when having to drive in and out of ditches.

The new unit, known as Engine 1, is an impressive addition to the volunteer fire department as it carries 3400 litres, has enough room for four crew members, is fully equipped with grass nozzles and a front bumper speed line among other features. According to the fire department, Engine 1 has a 840 gallon per minute Rosenbauer pump with a high pressure pump, making it capable of handling numerous emergency situations including structural and vehicle fires, along with grass fires that we know can be prevalent in the area.

Hope said that they are very grateful to the RM of Kindersley for outfitting them with the new truck which is now in the fire department's possession.
