For the sixth year in a row, Kindersley locals, Candis Hildebrandt, along with her daughter Kinley, have paid it forward by organizing a toy drive for youth at the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital, with this year bringing in more donations than ever.

Kinley, who has a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia, has endured numerous long stays in the hospital and although she is doing much better and thriving after her liver transplant, she, and her mom, continue to organize the toy drive, knowing how much of a difference it can make.

"Wow, this is going to make so many kids happy! One colouring book can will help one child," Kinley said to her mom Candis as they saw the donations start to roll in.

Although the donations seemed to be coming in at a slower rate this year compared to previous years, thanks to local media and the never ending support of the community, this year's toy drive turned out to be their best yet.

"I messaged them [Jim Pattison Children's Hospital] earlier and said, you know - I don't think we are going to have as much this year, and then when word really got out, we were just blown away by how many donations came in during the last couple weeks - to the point where I called them back to say, you'll probably need to bring a couple carts out and they were just shocked when we got there on how much we had to donate," shared Candis.

The employees at the hospital were not the only ones who were blown away by the number of donations received this year. After Candis organized all of the donations before packing them up in the vehicle to take to Saskatoon, Kinley stood there in awe and said, "this is going to make so many kids happy mom".

On top of all of the toys, games, books and other physical donations, $2000 in monetary donations were also collected, which allowed Candis with the help of her son, Coen, to go out and get any other additional items to make sure all age groups in the hospital had something special.

"We yes, we organize it and bring in the donations, but this wouldn't be possible without all of the support from our community and - we even had some monetary donations come in from the U.S. which... it was just really amazing to see and we thank everyone so much for making this year so successful, it really meant the world to all of those kids at the hospital," said Candis.

Once again, west central has shown what it means to embody community spirit, rally together and pay it forward for a good cause.
