Today is Pink Shirt Day in Saskatchewan and across the country as the nation stands up against bullying. I think it's safe to say, especially since the onset of the pandemic, that a little kindness and compassion can go a long way, a message that is being amplified today.

As we all wear our best pink shirt, or hat, or scarf, whatever it may be, may we remember why we are doing so, and lend a helping hand to those may need to know that someone cares, or simply go throughout our day accepting others for who they are.

According to pinkshirtday.ca, one in five children are affected by bullying - unfortunately, I think most of us have had an instance, or several instances, in our own life where we have felt the ill effects from bullying, which should act as a catalyst to never treat someone else in that same way.

Through social media, opinions are abundant and cruel words are seemingly easier to say from behind a screen, so on this Pink Shirt Day, let's not only remember to flash a smile to your friends, co-workers, fellow students and teachers, but to also carry those same behaviours through to social media platforms and be kind online.

Happy Pink Shirt Day West Central :)
