To no one's surprise, the harvest is a little behind schedule for this time of year.

Cropping Management Specialist Grant McLean says, "we have progressed a little bit. Heavy rain swept across a good portion of the Southeast last week. The region has about 5% of the 2010 crop combined with another 18% swathed or ready to be straight cut."

McLean says many of the crops in the west central region are still one to two weeks behind the five year average.

As for topsoil moisture in our region, 36% are reporting surplus moisture, while 63% are reporting adequate. McLean adding, 96% of the hay crop has been cut, with 88% of that baled or put into silage.

Hot weather is needed to push crops along and some farmers are concerned with the we fields in some parts of the area.
