The Government of Saskatchewan released a breakdown of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths for the month of September on Tuesday.

According to the release, a total of 13,141 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the province during the month;

  • 9,324 (71%) of those were among residents who were unvaccinated,
  • 2,904 (22.1%) were among those fully vaccinated, and
  • 913 (6.9%) were among residents who were partially vaccinated. 

2,877 (21.9%) of new cases in September were also in residents aged 11 years old or younger. 

Looking at hospital admissions throughout the month, 449 new residents were admitted; 

  • 328 (73.1%) were unvaccinated,  
  • 101 (22.5%) were fully vaccinated, and; 
  • 20 (4.5%) were partially vaccinated. 

13 of 449 admitted into hospital were aged 19 or younger, and 12 were aged 12 and under.  

Breaking it down even more; there were a total of 83 ICU admissions throughout the month;

  • 71 (85.5%) being unvaccinated,  
  • 10 (12%) being fully vaccinated, and;  
  • 2 (2.4%) were partially vaccinated. 

September saw another 72 residents die from COVID-19 in Saskatchewan as well;

  • 35 (48.6%) of those were unvaccinated,  
  • 28 (38.9%) were fully vaccinated, and  
  • 9 (12.5%) were partially vaccinated. 

According the Government of Saskatchewan; of the 28 residents with two vaccine doses who died; 26 (92.9%) were over the age of 70, and 9 (32.1%) had comorbid conditions. 

Comorbid conditions include hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, lung disease, pregnancy, or obesity. 

No information was given as to how many of those unvaccinated who died of COVID-19 had comorbid conditions.
