The Gasper Family Foundation held its first annual Golf Classic, on Thursday, June 13 2019, at The Rosetown Golf and Country Club. The sold out event raised funds for The Gasper Family Splash Park. The days events started with registration at 1:00pm and ended with dinner and a silent auction starting at 5:00pm.

The Gasper Family Splash Park is the foundations first project. It will be located at The Knights of Columbus park here in Rosetown with plans to have the park up and running this summer, 2019.

‘The Park will be created in loving memory of Troy, Carissa, Kael and Maks and Shea Gasper, with the vision to bring together families in our community through inclusive and interactive play.’

The foundation is ran by a board of directors with Heath Pearce as its president. Morgan Nunweiler is the Vice-President, Daniel Evans is the treasurer and Danielle Pearce is the foundations secretary. Danielle shared that the event was a hit with more than $30,000.00 raised.

“The golf classic was a huge success! It was such a great day and everyone had so much fun. We raised over $30,000 which is way more than we were expecting, which is so amazing,” reported Danielle.

There was a silent auction with donations from local and small businesses as well as a number of jerseys up for grabs. A highlight of the evening was the live auction. The live auctions biggest ticket item was the opportunity to cut Rosetown local, Jordan Johnston’s long hair.

Danielle explained, “In May of 2016, Troy Gasper bet Jordan Johnston that he wouldn't cut his hair for 3 years. With this May having hit the 3 year mark, we decided to auction off the chance to cut it at the event.”

The top bidders/amateur hairdressers were Wilson Johnston and Keegan Mcavoy. $5,000.00 won the pair the rights to cut Jordan Johnston's hair in whatever fashion they pleased. The deal also stipulated that Jordan Johnston keep the new do for at least a week and make public appearances without a hat.

Danielle shared that theoverwhleming generosity from the planning stages through to the event was what amazed her most. When asked about a highlight she said, “I think it was just really great to have everyone together.”

The Gasper Family Foundation Golf Classic winners were Derek Cordes and Kevin Aylward. Cordes and Aylward ended the day tied at 8 under with Greg Moore and Murray Markham, they then went on to clinch the title on the 2nd playoff hole.
