The Kindersley Stallions were happy to host some great baseball over this past weekend. The hosts Kindersley along with the Wilkie Brewers were the two local teams in action, joining North Battleford, Cabri, and Standard Hill as contenders for the 2022 Senior AA Tier 2 provincial crown.

The first day's action fired up at 10:00 am as Cabri took a victory against Standard Hill, setting up a wild chain of events.

After Cabri's tournament opening win, Kindersley beat up on North Battleford 11-1 in the game after. After that Standard Hill would rebound from their opening game loss with an 8-6 win against Wilkie, setting up Cabri vs Kindersley as the first night finale. The Stallions would win that one to enter the second day 2-0, though a wild day of action on Saturday would set up an important Sunday.

Various finals from the day included a double digit score for North Battleford over Wilkie, a 5-3 battle between Kindersley and Standard Hill that went the Lakers way, and then a 16-15 thriller between Cabri and North Battleford preceded the evening finale between Kindersley and Wilkie that finished in an extra innings win for the Brew Crew.

Sunday's early action resulted in a string of tie-breakers that led to a number crunch to decide the Standard Hill Lakers opponent in the finals. The Lakers won their way into the final against the Kindersley Stallions, and the two teams got off to a very fast start with four first inning runs, though those turned out to be the only scores on the board in a 3-1 win for Standard Hill.

In a way Kindersley pitched themselves to the final with some help from the tie-breaking number crunch, according to Kyle Donaldson with the team.

"Everybody actually ended up finishing 2-2, it was pretty crazy standings wise. We had some good games, some tougher games, but overall it was a really good weekend and everyone was on an even playing field the entire time. We helped ourselves out with the runs against thing to get us into the final, and then faced a pretty good pitcher for Standard Hill in the final who threw well. Couldn't get the ball to fall, but other than that it was a really good weekend."

The team in orange will always be happy to treat Kindersley residents to a great ball game, and the horses look forward to future opportunities to host this level of senior baseball.

"I think we put in a bid every year kind of thing. We are always happy to host with the facilities we do have. We get good crowds and everything, the community is always interested in watching good baseball," said Donaldson, "I'm sure we will try again next year and whether we get it or not is another story, but we definitely want to do it again in the next two or three years for sure."
