Plans for a new housing complex in Kindersley are underway and looks to provide some relief in a currently tense rental market.

The Town of Kindersley recently approved a subdivision on the east end of the town, to what was originally thought to be the location of a new hotel, to accompany the almost dozen that are already existing.

The location however, is slated to be home to 55 new townhouse-style condo units, each having two bedrooms with a suite in the basement and a garage. The development will also include a public amenities area equipped with a gym and a meeting room and will have retail space in a separate building that could be home to a restaurant or other businesses.

Eric Watson, president of MasterBUILT Hotels Ltd., said they will likely retain ownership of the condo’s but may offer a few up for sale, of which he said the units would be priced in the mid $300,000’s.

The project is just in the beginning stages but word has spread quickly with approximately 70 per cent of the condo’s already been spoken for by oil companies and others who require their workers to be in Kindersley for extended periods of time.

Watson said during the construction phase, the opportunities for jobs will increase as they are likely not using a modular structures but rather building it from the ground up on-site.

The project is set to break ground this upcoming spring or summer and tentatively will be complete the following spring, around March 2020
