Monday marks the Federal Finance Ministers' consultation deadline on the Liberal’s proposed Small Business tax changes.

The Farmers of North America’s Strategic Agriculture Institute is calling on the Federal Government to extend the consultation process.

Bob Friesen is FNA STAG’s spokesperson says they need to think about the impact on farmers.

"We're just simply asking them to continue consultation, really look at the impact analysis because I don't think finance did any. And to look at the impact analysis that has now been done by the industry, and consider amendments."

Friesen says they asked their membership what should be done and they overwhelmingly responded, 'we need to put a stop to this.'

"We've seen impact analysis that show that farmers will face a considerable increase of taxes. It's going to impact annual cash flow, it's going to impact annual finances, it's going to impact intergenerational transfers, and so we just think they should take a second sober look."

He says since the changes will impact producers the Standing Committee on Agriculture should also hold hearings.

FNA STAG feels the proposals will knee-cap farmers that find making ends meet a daily challenge and penalize those who have taken the government's advice – using experts to plan for the future.
