The Federal Government announced over $1.3 million in funding for the Canadian Animal Health Coalition.

The $1.3 million is going to the Canadian Animal Health Coalition to help the group in its efforts to promote a collaborative approach to animal health.

The money from the Federal Government will be used for four projects.

Over $800 thousand is earmarked for the development of an emergency management plan for the Canadian livestock industry during major hazard emergencies.

CEO for the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association Ryder Lee talks about the need for the plans and how it could work.

"Part of what happens when you have incident whether it's a natural disaster or animal health thing is you start finding out who do you need to get a hold of," Lee said. "What authorities do you even need, and maybe we need to shut down transport of animals or shut down an area of highways, well which goverment even can do that, and who do you call, to make that effective."

$224 thousand will go towards the development of a new online livestock transport certification program to improve handling practices for truckers, shippers and receivers.
