It was quite the experience for a local man last week, as VP of Agronomy Services at Western Sales Corey Leonard took part in STARS “Rescue on the Prairie.”

Leonard talked about what he had to all go through to be part of the rescue.

“We ended up at a ranch out near Lumsden is where they flew us to. Throughout the day we had a series of competitions that myself and the three other participants were competing against one another in doing. Everything from medical competitions to some fun ones as well. And then of course in between those competitions we were working as hard as we could to try and raise more money.”

Leonard also got a first-hand view of what the STARS Ambulance people go through on a day-to-day basis.

“The experience gave me just a taste of what it's like in terms of a day in the life of the STARS crew, the medical staff, the pilots, the things that they have to deal with. We had an opportunity to obviously ride in one of the helicopters and just to see what the confined space and imagine what It would be like performing CPR on somebody or chest compressions on somebody in a life and death situation. Minutes are precious obviously and then also to get to know STARS Staff was awesome as well. And just to hear some of their personal stories why they do what they do. That's some of the major takeaways from the day.”

As for the totals Leonard himself made and the grand total from the three others who were “rescued”, Leonard managed to raise $88,636 as of September 20. The grand total saw $434,775 raised for the STARS Air Ambulance.

Leonard wanted to personally thank everyone who supported his rescue.

“I'm super happy to be able to do that. And the big thank you to all the people that supported lots of customers in our Western sales circles and lots of in other circles as well. Just a huge thank you for all the support.”
