The Saskatchewan Roving Traffic Unit recently arrested and seized drugs from three seperate stops in the Kindersley area.

On April 17, one stop resulted in the seizure of 207 grams of Cannabis.  The driver, a 37-year-old male from Summerland BC, was charged under the Cannabis Act. The reason for the initial stop was not identified.

Also on April 17, a vehicle was stopped traveling westbound on Highway 7.  During the interactions with the driver, the officer became suspicious of drug possession.  A specially trained police service dog was deployed and indicated that there were drugs present in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and a search was conducted on the vehicle.  The search revealed 61 grams of Cannabis and 31 grams of Cannabis shatter.  Also located was $7000 cash that was hidden inside the vehicle. The driver a 40-year-old male from Saskatoon is facing charges under the Cannabis Act and possession of Proceeds of Crime under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Corporal Rob King, shared that the substance shatter was not legalized with the Cannabis Act put into effect last year and the levels of THC in shatter would be highly more concentrated than that found in the natural cannabis plant.

The third arrest and seizure happened on April 18, a vehicle was travelling eastbound on Highway 7 and it was stopped for improper use of seatbelts.  The vehicle attempted to turn off onto a gravel road but was stopped by the police.  Over the course of the traffic stop, officers made several observations consistent with drug possession and the occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance. A search of the vehicle located four 29 gram packages hidden within the vehicles interior: two containing cocaine and two containing what is believed to be Phenacetin which is used in the production of crack cocaine.  Also located were two bags of Crystal Methamphetamine weighting a total of 1004 grams. This quantity of Methamphetamine seized would break down into 10,000 doses. The driver, a 25-year-old male and a 23-year-old male passenger, both from Calgary, Alberta, have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and will appear in Provincial Court in Kindersley on July 16.

Cpl. King shared that although street values will vary depending on the market, the above seizure would be approximately $100,000 in resale.
