After Kindersley RCMP had three different reports of break & enters in Dodsland, Eston and Plenty, Rosetown RCMP is currently dealing with a report of a break and enter this past weekend as well.

Sgt. Jason Waldner of the Rosetown RCMP explains.

“We had a rash of B & E’s that came through on the weekend, unfortunately. We had actually the curling rink then the hockey rink got broke into and a few break and enters and thefts kind of through the area. But it wasn't just us, I believe that everybody in the West Central got hit, so we're running down a few leads on that. We're hopeful that we're going to be able to identify the suspects and hopefully we can bring them to justice,” Sgt. Waldner said.

Other than the recent rash of break and enters in the area, Sgt. Waldner said crime has been relatively low compared to previous years.

“Overall, our crime has gone down, it's continued to stay low, which is nice, but yeah, we're seeing definitely a nice lull, but I believe we're also seeing a lot more of community involvement.”

Sgt. Waldner attributes the low crime rate to individuals calling into the RCMP and Crime Stoppers to report crimes at a higher rate than in previous years.

“We're getting people calling us on suspicious vehicles, suspicious people, a lot more reports of things that they may be people in the past wouldn't even bothered. You know you had fuel stolen, that's not a big deal, but we're getting more and more people calling us in because we're asking them to. The only way that we can try and prevent and solve these crimes are if people call in and give us as much information as possible. It's a positive trend that we're seeing and then we are seeing more individuals call in to Crime Stoppers, which is a phenomenal tool if somebody wants to remain anonymous; they can still help their community and help the police in solving crimes while still maintaining that anonymity,” Sgt Waldner added.

Sgt. Waldner also wished everyone in the Rosetown area a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays, and reminded all motorists to be safe this holiday season, and plan a ride home if needed.
