The approval of the Keystone XL pipeline project last week from newly elected United States President Donald Trump has everyone talking; especially in Saskatchewan.

Premier Brad Wall has always shown full support towards the plan, and took to social media to express his excitement for Saskatchewan's involvement with the project. The pipeline was a reocurring topic for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his Saskatchewan tour as well, even being confronted by protestors about the pipelines during his visit at the University of Regina on Thursday.

On this side of the province, it has been a popular topic of conversation since it will directly affect west central Saskatchewan. Construction for the pipeline in the province is prepared to be contained near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border for the majority of the project. Although, it is set to create economic opportunities for the Town of Kindersley and surrounding communities.

"Anything that is going to create jobs in an economy that we're in is a benefit for a lot of communities," said Shaun Henry, councilor for the Town of Kindersley. "Because of the oil town we're in, it will definitely increase our economy."

One of the pipelines main targets is to decrease the usage of railways transporting Canadian oil across the country and the United States. The intention is to allow more opportunities to use the rail system to transport other products. "Personally, I see the pipeline as a safer way to move rather than railcars," said Henry. "It allows the railcars to open up a little bit for the farmers as well."

Kindersley council have yet to discuss about the situation in full and the community's plan to coincide with the project. But, no doubt the enterprise will produce employment opportunities for residents, while boosting the local economy. "I think, for the most part, council would be in support for the safe expansion and improvement of the pipelines," explained Henry. "Hopefully some guys can get back to work, get normal hours or get overtime, and help the lives for many of the people in the area."

As for now, residents and businesses in the region will be monitoring the situation closely as it continues.
