It’s been an active week of weather for the West Central region. Following a weekend heat wave which prompted a heat warning, much of the province, including the West Central portion has witnessed a series of thunderstorms move through the area.

The system responsible for these thunderstorms, some extreme, has passed through Saskatchewan and conditions are likely to stabilize for the remainder of the week and the weekend, according to Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang.

“It does look like the atmosphere is going to settle down a little bit in terms of thunderstorms. We’re losing that typical pattern that we get thunderstorms from and hopefully we’re going to get into a quieter period.”

Lang further explained how the conditions will change over the next bit and how it will affect us.

“The jet stream is going to become more westerly. When it tends to be a more inverted U, that’s when we tend to get the heat waves and if it is a regular U, we tend to get into the cold. When it's just straight west to east we get more seasonal temperatures.”

This week’s early storms presented dangers, but no confirmed damage from high winds or hail was recorded.
