The Saskatchewan government providing $1.5 million to 15 community airports across the province in the 2020-21 budget. The money is part of the Community Airport Partnership grant program, which has seen over $9 million going to airports since the program started in 2007.

Some of the airports which received funding in the past year include Weyburn, Humboldt, Leader, Melfort, North Battleford, Unity and Wynyard.

“Saskatchewan’s community airports play an important role in economic growth,” Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw said in a written release. “They also ensure the safety of our communities by supporting vital services like Air Ambulance and firefighting.”

Applications are now open for the next round of grants. The deadline for communities to apply is February 24th.
