With the potential for some cold temperatures and white stuff on the way this week, the government of Saskatchewan is reminding residents that everyone has access to safe, warm shelter during the winter months through the Cold Weather Strategy.

The Ministry of Social Services is working with community partners to ensure all people have a safe and warm place to stay during cold weather. Spaces are available in shelters across the province and people who live in communities without shelters will have access to hotels.

Jeff Redekopp, Executive Director of Income Assistance Service Delivery with the Ministry of Social Services says "Individuals or families who require emergency shelter in Swift Current and surrounding areas should connect with their local income assistance office during business hours and after-hours they can contact RCMP."

In regards to those requiring shelter, Redekopp says "Ministry staff will work to connect that individual or family with shelter. That could include a referral to an emergency shelter if that resource is available in their home community. They can also provide the client with benefits to cover essential expenses such as meals and personal items."

Members of the public should call 911 if they see someone in need. A full list of shelters and services for people in need is available here
