Winter is here, officially! While most of West Central Saskatchewan had been enjoying above normal temperatures as recently as the end of last week, that is all over. Daytime high temperatures dipped to somewhere in the mid-teens, while night time lows have plummeted to somewhere between -25 and -30. Normal temperatures for this time of year are around -7 as the daytime high and -17 as the night time low. The forecast doesn't let up either as for the next week or so, the mercury is showing a dip of even a few more degrees.

Drew Lerner, our regional meteorologist, says in a sense, our region was due for this drop with all of the nicer weather we had received, with some highs into the +20 region in November. Lerner said some areas of China and Russia have been experiencing low's in the -40's for weeks now and it was only a matter of time til some of that cold worked it's way into the western hemisphere. Lerner also said that for the most part, we should only expect to see surges of cold like this one, and that it isn't expected to stay that cold for long stretches throughout December and January.

Drew also mentioned that the area should expect to see less precipitation than normal. Lerner went on to say that parts of Eastern Saskatchewan will most likely have it the worst when it comes to cold, and for mass amounts of snow. Another area of Saskatchewan that could see a decent amount of the white stuff is to the south, along the highway 1 corridor.
