Anyone going for a stroll in Elrose over the past month might have noticed a new addition in front of the library. A new bench was placed in front of the building in memoriam of a notable Elrose resident, through a gesture from Joan Coakwell’s longtime coffee buddies.

In speaking with the head librarian in Elrose, she said the library was chosen because Joan was known to love reading.

“They thought with us moving to a different location, it would be a perfect place to put a bench in memory of Joan Coakwell.”

Her family might have had a proper send-off, but her coffee buddies were unable to do anything formal to celebrate Joan’s life because of the past pandemic year. They figured the bench would be a perfect gesture to remember help memorialize Joan.

So far the reaction in Elrose to the new dedicated bench has been great, and multiple people have referenced how it will remain their for many years to come and become a good story for people to tell.
