On September 17th, Co-op had its annual Fuel Good Day to help raise money for local businesses.

On Fuel Good Day, customers who fill up their vehicles at Co-op gas bars had a minimum of 5 cents per litre go towards a local business in their community. Many gas bars also held barbecues to help raise even more money.  Gas bars across the region were able to raise $6959.59 for different organizations.

The $3619.55 raised in Rosetown will go towards Rosetown’s Fire Department, with many firefighters attending the event and lending a hand; washing windshields, helping with the barbecue, and offering tours of the trucks to children.

This year’s turnout was a great improvement over last year’s event, as Kimiko Otterspoor, a representative of Co-op in Rosetown, explains.

“It was a lot better this year, actually, which, I have to say, it was definitely a lot to do with the partnership we had with the Fire Department. They were super helpful and, all of the sites had firefighters on site that day, I think in Eston they basically ran most of the barbecue.”

Otterspoor gives credit to the Firefighters’ help as the reason this year had an improved turnout.

“It definitely helps with the hype, having them there, and also, having them help with promotion coming up to the event. I think that’s probably why we just did a lot more promoting and trying to get the word out. Also, it is the third year too, so I think people are starting to know what Fuel Good Day is a little more.”

Co-op’s Fuel Good Day is a simple way for most people to help support local businesses and organizations. With the simple act of filling up the car at a gas station, it feels nice to know that you’re also giving support to those who need it.

Other town's to raise funds during Fuel Good Day were:

  • Eston $1944.32
  • Perdue $1395.69
