CN Rail is reporting a new record for the 11th consecutive month.

The railway reporting it shipped over 2.95 million metric tonnes (MMT) of Canadian grain and grain products in January.

That beats the previous January record set in 2019 of 2.33 MMT and the three-year average of 2.24 MMT.

That puts the volume of grain moved by the railway in the first half of the 2020-2021 crop year to over 17.5 MMT.

That's 17% higher than the record they set in the 2018-19 crop year of 14.9 MMT.

CN is also breaking records with over 600,000 metric tonnes of grain moving direct from western Canada via container, in addition to volumes shipped from eastern
Canada.

CN reports the increase in grain movement is largely due to the investments they've made in capacity over the last few years.
