The car show gods smiled of the Wilkie Show ‘n’ Shine Committee last Saturday, as the beautiful day resulted in 48 cars coming from as far as Eatonia and Eston to enjoy the 1st annual Wilkie Show ‘n’ Show. The event was held at the OA Leather/Innovation Credit Union parking lot, and the cars were joined by the entertainment of Jon Sloan & Friends, and Dan Wilgenbusch and Friend, who entertained the crowd during the day.

“I spoke to quite a few car owners throughout the day and everyone had a blast, and were even happier to win some prizes” said co-organizer Phil Heilman.

Organizers say those who brought their vehicles for display enjoyed this opportunity, with some even happier as they picked up some prizes.

The police car from Dog River, the fictional town setting for the television series “Corner Gas,” was one of the vehicles on display and seemed to attract some selfie opportunities. The car is owned by Wilkie residents, Stuart and Jenny Nicholson.

The big winner of the day was Lou Bartley, who took home the $300 50/50. After expenses, the committee was able to donate $150 dollars to the Wilkie Museum and Wilkie Food Bank. The committee looks forward to taking a break before getting back at it to plan for next week, with the aim to have the show ‘n’ shine earlier in the summer.

This event was one of three held on Sept. 18 in Wilkie, which also included the Super-Volley junior volleyball tournament at SaskCan arena, and the Pegasus Project STARS fundraiser held at Country Ford.
